Actor Over 30 is a private Facebook membership group for women over 30 who would like to start acting in commercials, film and/or theater. 

The goal is not to groom people into professional actors in major cities. Our goal here is to allow you — through community — to mine the mindset, spiritual, and emotional growth that can arise from auditioning, performing and possibly finding representation

My Story 

Hi, I’m Daphne O’Neal. I actually started acting a couple of years before I turned 30. While I had a performing arts background, I lacked confidence.

At first, I just wanted to prove to myself that I could get work as a commercial actor. On moving to San Francisco, I started getting work right away. Once I had proved it, I stopped acting altogether. But after I was laid off, I was persuaded by a photographer to try it again. 

Long story short, I shot three TV movies last year and have appeared on such shows as 13 Reasons Why. I created this group because I experienced so much personal growth along the way. The process of marketing myself, looking for an agent, reading auditions, working on camera, and seeing my work on TV has given me so much confidence and strengthened my sense of self. In addition, I’ve developed a mindset game to rival that of any athlete.

The Why

My goal in starting this group is to help others experience their own personal growth, whether they  act as a hobby or decide to pursue it more seriously. 

Whether you end up in a known TV show or film, or choose to remain with your local community theater group, it’s the life lessons and development that can nourish you and inspire others.

This group is also largely about community. Imagine sharing your experiences with people who are just starting out like you. Support and encouragement from like-minded women can make all the difference as you take your first steps along this path. 

PROGRAM

We’ll start out with an overview of the opportunities available in or near your community, such as background, or extra work, commercials, community theater, short films, student films, and commercial print. 

In addition, there will be monthly coaching meetings on topics like finding a class — online or in person, audition tips, what headshot photos, choosing a monologue. We’ll also talk about confidence, seeing yourself differently and more. 

I am especially excited for women who may have thought about acting or dipped a toe in and then had to prioritize family or career obligations.

What This Group is NOT is a guarantee or intention of a path to stardom. Even for actors who begin early and train professionally for years, there are no guarantees. The goal of this group is to enjoy the journey, learn from it, celebrate your own development, and if you enjoy it, keep the process going, possibly for the rest of your life.
